A Message From The President

A Message From The President

Hello Upper School Students,

After a difficult year of virtual and hybrid learning, I hope that everyone has enjoyed our full return to in-person learning and the revived vibrancy of the Upper School community. On behalf of the Student Council, I would like to share some updates from the past three months and our plans for the rest of the year.

Fall Social

Since August of this year, sophomore Student Council representatives and COS leaders worked hard to plan a Fall Social. Thanks to student admissions, we were able to raise over $400 for Casa San Jose. Though this event was brand-new, it was a great success for students and hopefully a new tradition in the Upper School.

Semi-Formal and Prom

The Student Council has started planning the other dances of the school year: a February Semi-Formal and Spring Prom. We hope to have a traditional Semi-Formal Dance with strong COVID precautions, but we will keep you updated as the year progresses.

ClassCapades

We are planning our first ClassCapade after Thanksgiving Break. Though we have not announced the theme of this event, we will have Dodgeball and Mario Kart ClassCapades in Spring. For students who are unfamiliar with ClassCapades, they are one of the Upper School’s favorite traditions in which grades compete against one another. At the end of the year, one grade will be crowned victorious!

Seniors

We have been working hard to appreciate our senior class. We would like to hold a new Senior Brunch for our Class of 2022 – seniors can enjoy food and drinks, spend time with friends, and relax after a stressful season of college applications. We are also designing Class of 2022 sweatshirts that will be distributed to every member of the senior class. More information about the Senior Brunch and sweatshirts will be coming soon.

Some Words on Student Voices

As a Student Council, we believe it is our goal to amplify students’ voices and work with the WT administration to improve our community. It is incredibly important to us that the concerns of every student are acknowledged. Both as your peers and as your representatives, we admire your work towards a more equitable WT community, and we are always here to listen, support and advocate.

The last few months have been productive, fun, and rewarding in the Upper School, and we hope to see our tight-knit community thrive in coming months. As always, please reach out to me, our Executive Board, or our grade representatives if you have any questions, ideas, or concerns. I’ve added our emails below. At any point in time, we are happy to meet with individuals or groups—there is no topic too small!

Enjoy your well-deserved break, and thank you for a great start to this year!

Kindly,

Julia Stern
