Last Thursday, the WT Boys Soccer team picked up another win, beating Trinity Chrisitan 5 goals to 1. Senior Alex Hauskrecht netted 2 of those 5, while the other 3 were scored by Juniors Peter Husar, Tomer Tuti, and Student Council senior President Tommy Gordon. After losing their second game of the season to North Allegheny, the Bears have not dropped a single other, winning 8 straight and tying one match. Interestingly, that one tie was against this very same Trinity Christian team.

Back in early September when these two same teams faced off, the score was 4-4. Both Bears players and coaches were expecting an easy win, but they walked off the field with a different result. A hard-fought match from both sides, the game went into double overtime where neither team could pull away with a victory, and it resulted in a draw. Analyzing after the fact, there was no real apparent reason for the Bears to perform as they did. No injuries, no fatigue, they were actually given a good amount of time off before this match, according to Senior Captain Oliver Daboo. When asked what the feeling was going into that game, Daboo had this to say: “We were pretty confident. We had a little time off over the weekend to sort of get our energy back, and we had a good practice Monday morning. So yeah, we were feeling confident.” Even more interesting was that after a tough loss like that, captain Oliver Daboo did not take the bus ride back with the team. “I don’t think any of the captains took the bus back,” Daboo continued. (He is wrong in this regard—Alex Hauskrecht did take the bus back. Daboo might have known this if he, too, had taken the bus.) All in all, the tie was a blow to their morale.

But the reigning state champs don’t stay down for long, as they went on to win their next 7 games in a row. During that run, Senior Alex Hauskrecht surpassed 100 career-high school goals, which is an absolutely huge accomplishment. The Bears look to make another commanding postseason run and will be looking to become back-to-back PIAA state champions.
