What’s Up With East Liberty’s New Restaurant honeygrow

honeygrow by Everybody Craves

Last week, ourselves and a couple of our friends decided to take a trip down to East Liberty and try out one of the newer restaurants in the area, honeygrow. If you’re into the high stools, “everything’s in lowercase letters” kind of scene, this restaurant is definitely worth the big bucks. honeygrow offers customized healthy food options that are all stir-fry based. Along with their savory food options, the eatery’s fruit-packed frozen yogurt is also a fan-favorite.

We both ordered a create-your-own bowl. Even though honeygrow does have already created bowls, many people opt to make their own because they can pick what they prefer. First you pick your noodles, egg or rice. Then, you pick a protein. One thing to note about the proteins is that they are all different prices, tofu being the least expensive, and beef being the most.

Isabel’s Opinion:

I personally am really picky and I don’t like many vegetables, so I only ordered rice noodles and chicken. What really made honeygrow special though, were the sauces that they have to offer. I got a honey garlic sauce and it made the simple bowl that I got really good. I also got one of their soda that they make. I’ll be honest, I was a little worried to go to honeygrow because I hate health food and I really don’t enjoy the ‘healthy alternatives’ to regular foods. Because I was nervous about , I tried to make something that seemed familiar to me. I used the same noodles that are in Pad Thai, which is one of my favorites. Their sodas were made of pure cane sugar and they really made it seem like it was going to taste like a plant. However, to my surprise, they were actually really good, even better than regular soda because they had more natural flavors.

Lila’s Opinion:

Somehow, in some world, I was feeling brave that night at honeygrow and opted for the vegan AF (standing for awesome fun, of course) bowl. I didn’t read the description of the vegan option very carefully so when I decided to pile loads of vegetables onto my zucchini noodles, the amount of green going on was a bit much. However, like Isabel said, honeygrow makes really amazing sauces which helped combat the abundance of vegetables I had created. I was really excited to try their fried tofu because everyone at the table who added tofu to their bowl said they really enjoyed it. Sadly, when I poked my bowl to find some of what I had been waiting for that night, I realized they had forgot the tofu. I understand though, it was late, it was Friday, slip ups happen and are totally understandable. However, I do know people who would see missing items from their bowl and throw a major health fit right then and there. I did end up getting a free La Croix from honeygrow, for reasons unknown to me so all in all, not a terrible night.

Is another trip to honeygrow in the future for us?

We definitely think that there is another trip coming in the future for us. Along with the food being pretty good, the aesthetic was definitely 10/10. Just no vegan bowls with extra vegetables.
