We can undeniably say the first month of school has come to an end. Whether you are an underclassmen or upperclassmen, I think we can all collectively agree we’re glad it’s out of the way.
I’ve seen a range of things these first few weeks of settling in. I’ve seen the freshmen – during breaks, lunches, any in between periods – enjoying themselves, meanwhile seniors are stuck in study bubbles finishing college applications. I’ve seen juniors stressing about SATs among many other things in store for them, and I honestly don’t know where the sophomores are; I swear I never see one.
The freshmen have had a breeze of the year so far. With an upset win against the seniors (I’m not sure if the senior class has ever lost a non-final game), they made it to their first classcapade final.
The sophomores battled against them and came out on top. After asking numerous people, time and time again Ryleigh Tardy was nominated as the MVP of the whole tournament. Not only was she scoring touchdowns left and right, she was dancing to the music and keeping her team alive throughout.
The next weeks passed by until a new rush approached, the sometimes exciting but usually dreadful picture day. As a member of Yearbook, my favorite pastime while organizing layouts is looking through each person’s headshot. I’m not sure I even want to see mine. The photographer who took my picture outright told me I needed to fix my hair, and when I changed it, repeated his statement. Maybe next year will be my year.
As for sports teams, we’ve had an impressive fall season. Field Hockey’s most recent win against Ellis was an intense rivalry game, but two goals from Sarita Doshi ‘26 and captain Tia Chitty ‘24 secured another win for the girls.
The girls soccer team has held up a monumental 10-0 record going into the postseason. Meredith Snyder ‘25 leads the team with 16 goals. Boys soccer team captains Tomer Tuti, Adrian Musekamp ‘24, and Michael Miller ‘25 steered their team toward their most recent win against Burell, keeping a clean sheet and maintaining good status for the postseason.
Cecilia Gurgel ‘turned up and turned out’ in WPIAL Class 2A Girls Singles Tennis, achieving a bronze medal after a 6-4, 6-3 win over Hampton.
Both the girls and boys cross country team placed second in their sections. And though they’re waiting to see rankings for the WPIAL meet, both have high hopes in finishing off the season decisively with a chance to run at States as well.
Finally, with the combined Homecoming dance with Ellis, new memories and a highlight of the weekend was made. I’d especially like to thank whoever decided to put out Hershey Kisses for providing me with a sweet delicacy throughout the night.
