iPhone camera is out and 2000’s digital camera is in. Lately it has felt like the iPhone camera has become a little too good and makes every flaw ten times more noticeable. Making the switch to the slightly blurred, grainy, and out of focus digital camera solves this problem instantly.
Where to get one? Well, some peoples families have been hoarding old tech for centuries just for you to be able to pluck a canon camera that last saw the light of day when Justin Beiber was just a Canadian youtuber. For the rest of us the search has been frantic. Don’t let their poor quality fool you, digital cameras can cost somewhere in the 100-200 dollar range. Along with this if you are to get one brand new, you run the risk of getting a camera with good quality therefore defeating the whole digital camera effect. A solution to this issue is to get them second hand. Maya Finke ’27 one of our staff writers attempted to secure one off of Depop but was instantly scammed and charged double the price. (Don’t worry she has bargained with the scam artist and got her money back and one camera in the mail).
Many of you are at this point probably wondering, is it even worth it? Can’t there be some filter that I put on my photos that does the same thing? Will I regret not using the modern technology that I had access to? Yes. Most likely in twenty years we will all be trying to show our children photos from our peak youth but all you will be able to see are two red beady eyes peeping out from a blur of darkness. While this may be true I will still push through and make the switch. Digital cameras give an excuse to take photos. Without one you could hang out with your friends all night and never take a photo because there wasn’t a bulky taped together camera sitting in your pocket reminding you to take a photo and let it cool down because it is over heating.
To conclude, I will be ditching my iPhone this spring and fully commiting to digital. All trends have to circle back eventually (even tech ones). Maybe next year I will be writing this article about switching from texting to pager.
