Every year, the students of WT are never satisfied. While being a seemingly insignificant issue, the main complaint I have observed after every dance is that the DJ/music choice was so horribly agonizing, or “just alright”. While I personally was about 82% satisfied with the music at this past semi-formal (check Semi: A Night of Interdisciplinary Learning for more), I still managed to hear many complaints. Because of this difficult struggle, I have decided to take matters into my own hands, and give a detailed list of possible candidates I believe could truly meet the standards of the students today. Bonus: many of these can be found within the walls you walk today…
1. Mr. Maione
Who I personally believe to be the most qualified for this position, Mr Maione truly understands the stakes at hand, and after carrying the music department for numerous years, he could truly bring a new era to WT. While no, he wouldn’t fall into the standard of playing the typical Katy Perry or The Killers, Mr Maione would truly make the dance a listening experience. Maybe this is exactly what the students need, a chance to truly immerse themselves into a true musical journey. While some see a chance to have a “fun”, unproductive, dance, I see a true learning opportunity. All I’m saying is, if I hear Herbie Hancock or Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata (Op.27, No. 2, 1st Movement), I will be the first one launching into the middle of that dance circle.
BONUS: maybe if you ask nicely, maybe we can hear an orchestra special of Shape Of You.
2. Dr Horton and Ms Bean COLLAB
I can picture it so clearly. Kesha, Pittbull, this is where the party really begins. Let me set the scene for you. Giant light-up DJ table…colorful flashing lights. The “ringmasters of the night” stand stalking over the students, huge DJ headphones on, really focused on the musical exploration and experience of the night. “Feel This Moment (feat. Christina Aguliera)” pouring out of the speakers, a true night to remember. Suddenly, a figure appears behind them. No! What will happen! Only to reveal the true party has arrived. Einstein comes flying P!nk style through the air. The crowd goes wild. For further details, please contact me directly. Only serious inquiries accepted.
3. Every CS teacher WT has to offer
Just think of the opportunity. I’m thinking rave visuals, lazer lights, insane techno music. Sickler and Amaya rule the DJ table, the people go wild. The night of everyone’s lives. While I would slightly fear for technical overload, I really think this group can bring it together seamlessly.
Hope that these served as some form of inspiration for next year’s Semi-Formal planning committee… I’m thinking we go with ‘community’ theme next year. Expert panel not included, please contact me if intrigued for more ideas.
