When I walked through the front doors to the Upper School on Monday, I did not expect to be walking into a sauna. It started off as a regular school day, but before I knew it, sweat was beading down my forehead, making it impossible to pay attention to what was going on in class. For the first time in my life, I actually saw people walking to the Davis Center to hang out during community time and/or H-block, not because they have class, but because WE ARE DYING IN HERE, and the Davis Center is our only escape from this heat (unless your a senior, then just walk to GetGo and get a bag of ice or something). One teacher even had us take water breaks in class and had more breaks to go outside, where it was actually cooler, yet it didn’t do much to help with the heat.
With only three more weeks to go until school is out, some may wonder when we will get our air conditioning back, but don’t worry, there’s no way they won’t get it fixed before school ends, right? Well, I guess the only thing we can do is hope. Through an anonymous source (Ms. Nesbitt), I was told that “they were missing a part” for the air conditioning to work and that they “were waiting for it so they could fix it”. I guess it’s now just a waiting game.
So here is my plea:
Teachers, it has been a rough week. With no AC, learning in class is almost impossible (especially in Biology). I would implore you to move back all tests scheduled for next week, to give students the appropriate amount of time to study, because there is no way anyone was studying in this kind of heat. If this is too much to ask, at least bring in ice cream to raise our spirits (it works! I felt so much better after Dr. V gave me some leftover ice cream that was for the Algebra 2 class).
Thank you for considering my request, and I hope the next time we meet, it will be in cooler temperatures (all I’m asking for is below 80 degrees indoors, is that too much to ask for?).
