Every year, new freshmen come into the high school. Everyone is wondering things like “What school did they come from?” and “What clubs are they in?” Or just plain weird questions like “what food would they choose to eat for the rest of their life?”. Nobody knows about them!
They just came from the middle school, an entirely different building, or they’re completely new to WT. Not many freshmen know people from the high school, and not many from the high school know the freshmen. But this article will clear that up. It’s time to meet the freshmen! (Zilin Liu, below)
Freshman Zilin Liu is in her fourth year at WT. She participates in numerous school activities, including Girls Tennis, Science Olympiad (Scioly), Plaid, Science Bowl, Engineering Club, Plaid, and others. Her favorite is Scioly. When asked what she would choose to eat for the rest of her life, she said dumplings. Zilin, like all freshmen, had some prior fears before going into 9th grade. “I was worried it wouldn’t be as tight-knit a community as middle school,” she said, “but now I don’t think it’s that big of a deal”.
Gabe Lipson has been at WT since 6th grade. He does Science Olympiad and Magic: The Gathering Club. His favorite is Scioly;
he’s been a member for 4 years and has always liked it. When asked what food he’d choose to eat for the rest of his life, he said a spicy tuna roll. Before coming to the high school, Gabe was told that the English classes were impossibly hard, which was intimidating. “So far it hasn’t met up to that expectation,” He stated, “but I’ll give it time,” Gabe added jokingly. Another freshman joining the high school this year is Jose Lipsitz . He’s been at WT since kindergarten. He’s in LSU and does bouldering outside of school. When asked what food he would choose to eat for the rest of his life, Jose said fries. Before high school, he was scared, like many freshmen, of getting lost in a whole new building. “But now I know where everything is,” Jose explained. (Jose Lipsitz above)
Before coming to WT, Sofia Winston attended Carlow Campus School, where she went from daycare to 8th grade. She plays soccer and is thinking of joining basketball, too. Sofia joined many interesting clubs, including BSU, LSU, Art Club, Climate Change Club, Pizza Club, Foster Love Club, Cooking Club, Female Film Club, World Hunger Club, Model UN, Stitching and Embroidery, and Student Ambassadors. Her favorites are the Student Unions, BSU, and LSU. When asked what food she’d choose to eat for the rest of her life, she said sushi. She mentioned how she was nervous before coming to WT. “I was afraid I’d have to make a lot of new friends,” she said, “but it ended up being fine because I made a lot of friends on the soccer team,”. Tochi Ndbubuisi, (above) is new at WT this year, coming from Falk. He’d been there for 9 years before coming here. When asked what food he’d choose to eat for the rest of his life, he said omelet salad. Some activities he’s planning on joining include Ping Pong Club, World Hunger Club, and BSU. “I think BSU is probably going to be my favorite,”. He also plays soccer for fun. Tochi was asked if there was anything else he’d like to say. “I’m really enjoying myself at WT so far,”.
Elliot Smith is a new student at WT, previously attending Ellis. She was there for 8 years before coming to WT. Along with her sport, field hockey, Elliot does many clubs, including Sewing & Embroidery Club and GSSU. Her favorite activity is field hockey. When asked what food she’d choose to eat for the rest of her life, she said Falafel. Elliot was most nervous about transitioning to a new school and whether she’d have a lot of trouble making new friends. “But that’s not happening, so it’s ok,” She mentioned. (Elliot Smith,above)
Noah Hopkinson is joining WT from Penn-Trafford, where he had been since 2nd grade. He plays soccer, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field during the spring. When asked what food he’d choose to eat for the rest of his life, he chose pizza because you can put any topping on it. Noah explained that he was scared of “Getting lost” before he came here, “but now I know the school”. (Noah Hopkinson, above)

What an interesting and insightful article. Being a grandma of the author I congratulate her on highlighting these students and giving them a voice.
