Dark days have fallen upon the Winchester Thurston Boys Soccer Team. An increasing number of players are falling victim to what locals call “the curse”. One of Winchester’s own, Vyas Prabakharan claimed, “I know this team is cursed, I just can’t prove it yet.” Many attribute it to the vengeful spirit of Alumn “Michael Gredler” known by those who feared and revered him as MG.
It began in small degree, with star player Benjiro Smuckler suffering an abrupt migraine during an away game versus Seton-LaSalle. Witnesses account that he looked pale, even ghoulish. Some even say they heard him muttering “if it wasn’t for the knee”. Despite his unfortunate condition, Benji went on to play one of the best games of his career. Onlookers agree it was a Michael Gredler-esque performance.
As the season went on, the paranormal activity only worsened. An inexplicable impairment to the thigh has sent one Sajaan Borrero to the bench, a serious blow for the bears. In recent news, both Xander Kope and Julius Poller-Prince have been sitting out due to unexplainable hip injuries.
Despite these numerous setbacks, the bears have continued to triumph. An ongoing six game win streak as well as conquering their section “rival” Springdale 2-0, the curse has been unable to halt the momentum of the varsity program.
Realizing defeat, the poltergeist shifted its focus to our beloved Junior Varsity players. Miles “The Kid” Buchanovich suffered a catastrophic break to his arm in the prime of his soccer career. The Kid, proving his unletting persistence and commitment to the team, came back to play only weeks later. In his first game back, the curse struck yet again. As if the first wasn’t bad enough, Miles suffered yet another devastating break to his other arm during the game. Prayers for The Kid and the rest of the JV team, scraping by without the powerhouse of the squad.
Reader, you might be thinking, “that has to be the worst of it”, but I would implore you to think twice before underestimating the curse. Recently, one Vyas Prabakharan has fallen victim to the curse, sidelining him for the foreseeable future. The world fell silent when news got out that the man himself, the heart and soul of the boys soccer team, suffered a complete break of his arm. According to Coach Brownold, “he may have to be bubble wrapped for the rest of the season.”
There are numerous speculations as to the causes of these mysterious and unfortunate events, but there is a resounding sense of fear among the players on the Winchester Thurston Boys Soccer Team, and as well a consensus of one question, “who will be next?”
