Sex Ed Granted to the Junior Class

Sex Ed Granted to the Junior Class

After great discussion and pleading, all juniors have finally been granted sex education. This course runs during the Junior Seminar period, which occurs once every cycle, in addition to several Community Time meetings that are separated by identified gender. Ms. Samantha Bushman has graciously agreed to teach this course, as her experience in teaching and her education more than qualify her for the job.

The course maintains an open environment, as Ms. Bushman aims to answer any and all questions juniors may have regarding sexuality and sex. From discussing STDs to sexual orientation to methods of protection in engaging in safe sex, this class has become an exceedingly informative resource. Ms. Bushman comes prepared with questions and answers, all of which enhance our existing body of knowledge.

Winchester Thurston students are exceedingly lucky to be educated in such a topic. Many schools lack proper sexual education, leaving their students ill-informed. Misinformation can lead to harmful stereotypes and an increase in the teen pregnancy rate, breeding an unsafe environment for students nationwide.

Overall, Ms. Bushman is doing an excellent job teaching sex ed. This course is extremely informative and important to high school students, as there’s no time better than now to become more knowledgeable about ourselves and others. As a junior, I’m extremely thankful to have been given the opportunity to learn everything I can in order to be better prepared for a safe and successful future.
