The State of the Union: New Beginnings
My fellow A-Bear-icans,
I, Jacob Dubner, the president of Student Council, write to you today looking optimistically towards the future as we, as a school, embark on our voyage through a new school year that is sure to be filled with both obstacles and triumphs. I am excited to announce a new column that will be in both Voices’ online and print publications, entitled The State of the Union, in which you will see glimpses into what Student Council has been working on as well as previews of what you can expect us to accomplish in the near future.
Since the end of last year, Student Council has been busy incorporating the requests of the student body into the framework of the school. Emily Pollock and Joey Scapellato, for example, have led the way in fulfilling requests to make students more conscious about the money they spend by designing and printing signage containing price information for all of the foods in the upper school snack area. Similarly, we have responded to student requests for more quiet work spaces by introducing new policies to optimize how the school’s study spaces are organized. These are just a few brief selections from the wide variety of initiatives that Student Council has been able to put in place during the first month of the school year, and we are very excited to put our next plans, including the addition of a recycling bin to Garland Field and a discussion about the under representation of women in not only the federal and state governments, but also our very own Student Council, into action over the coming weeks. We have an excellent group of representatives on Student Council who are all eager to channel your voices into our plans for the year, so do not hesitate to come talk to anyone one of us about what you would like to see Student Council work on next.
Stay tuned for future State of the Union addresses throughout what I am certain will be a splendid school year.
Your Student Council President,
Jacob Dubner
