Gratitude From Mr. Marx
A letter of gratitude to the Senior class…
I am truly touched by the Senior class’s care and altruism towards their fellow students at Winchester Thurston, and their embodiment of the spirit of Thinking Also of the Comfort and Rights of Others. I am happy to accept their offer to donate the Senior Lounge in order to be transformed into an extension of the US Library’s Makerspace. The almost unanimous decision was preceded by the understanding, that with a redesign of this space, it could easily serve the needs of dozens (if not hundreds of students) instead of just the ten to twelve “popular few.” With the potential use of this space by courses like Urban Research and Design, Computer Science Innovations, Research Science, and other courses spanning the humanities, it will undoubtedly help alleviate current issues with lack of space for academic reasons. The Senior Lounge (newly minted as the Marx Design Alcove – MDA for short) will live on with the countless number of students who benefit from being given the opportunity to create products, construct software programming, and redesign urban spaces to benefit the needs of the community. Starting early in 2017, equipment will begin the short move from the upper floor of the library into the MDA. For those of you interested in helping, I will be spending a significant chunk of Winter Break cleaning out the area and getting it ready for the switch over. There is a buzz about the school that speaks volumes regarding the senior class and their heartfelt decision. Just the other day I overheard Mr. Lorenzi talking about it to a family interested in Winchester. Word spreads fast. Again, thank you.
Sincerely,
Graig Marx
