This year’s season for the Winchester Thurston Varsity Women’s Tennis team was very successful! The WT Bears won six out of their nine matches! The tennis season started in late August when the Bears played Avella. The team came out strong with a 5-0 win! The next match was a tough one against Sewickley Academy. Although the team played its best, it lost 0-5. The subsequent match was a victory against Keystone Oaks at 4-1! At the following match against Hopewell, WT pulled out another strong win, 5-0! After that, they played the Ellis School. The Bears fought until the last point but lost 2-3.  Next, they played Carlynton who they beat 5-0! The next match was against Vincentian, who the Bears beat 3-2!  Afterwards, they fought hard against Ambridge but sadly lost 2-3. Finally, they played Riverview and beat them 5-0! The Bears made it into the playoffs where they lost 1-4 against top-seeded Knock High School. The team played very well this season, kept a good attitude, and always cheered each other on.

This year’s varsity line up was: Emma Famili seated as number one singles, Roshni Nischal seated as number two singles, Alexandra Friedlander seated as number three singles, Anatea Einhorn and Lucy Chen seated as number one doubles, and Ua Hayes and Taylor Thomas seated as number two doubles.

We should be very proud of the Winchester Thurston Varsity women’s tennis team. The players tried their absolute hardest with every ball they hit, whether they were playing in ninety degree heat in the third hour or playing in fifty degree weather in the first ten minutes. No matter what the circumstances were, the Bears always did their best.
