O happy day! WT Quizbowl has finally been recognized as a varsity sport! Some question the fairness and legitimacy of the Quizbowl team’s new promotion, especially when compared to the plight of the girls’ soccer team. Critics have also been quick to point out that Quizbowl isn’t a real sport, and even if it is, no one cared about it in the first place.

The Winchester Thurston A team consists of some of the coolest kids at WT:

seniors, Aidan “No, Wait, I’ve Been To That” Place, Nathaniel “Baguette Frenchie Baguette” Hull, EJ “My Little Sister’s Cooler Than Me” Eppinger, and Jacob “Beacon of Light, Cherished By All” Dubner. When asked about the latest change, EJ Eppinger commented, “We put our blood, sweat, and tears into this, and I’m happy to see that we’re finally getting the recognition we deserve.” Eppinger was later seen gently wiping away his tears of joy with a ten-page study guide on Supreme Court cases from the 1800s.

“I consider Quizbowl a legitimate varsity sport because we have to move a lot too. Trust me; I play soccer, and I know how grueling movement can be,” added senior Aidan Place, “For example, we had to walk up a flight of stairs in the Cathedral of Learning, and there were like, more than ten steps.”

“I’m just excited about the possibility of team jackets,” said senior and school cinnamon roll, Jacob Dubner, “You could say we’re going Faust and Furious.” Nathaniel Hull declined to comment, instead gazing lovingly at his laptop screen, four hours deep into a protobowl session.

With this transition to varsity status, this fun-loving, quartet of trivia whiz kidz hope to make Quizbowl’s cult-like nature rival that of the girls’ varsity soccer team. They are one step away from their goal with Jack Chaillet, Quizbowl legend, slated to speak at WT’s 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. However, unlike the girls’ soccer team, the fate of their legacy hangs in the balance.

While their history has been well-documented through their iconic Twitter account (@wt_quizbowl), the future of WT Quizbowl will soon rest on the shoulders of “Renegade” Ross Tedder, leader of the B team. For now, it’s unclear whether or not the B Team will share in the glory of the A team’s varsity status or be relegated to the humble title of “Junior Varsity,” but both Quizbowl teams’ constant success in knowing facts no one really cares about predicts a triumphant future for the academic side of WT sports.
