A letter from the desk of the president of Student Council…

My Fellow A-Bear-icans,

Four score and seven years ago, our forefathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all students have the right to crush the freshmen in Mario Kart. As I sit here today, I am proud to say that this proposition has been fulfilled in a glorious and gladiatorial manner that future historians shall likely refer to as the Great Mario Karnage of 2016. I am extremely happy with the positive feedback that the first Classcapades event has received, and I am hoping that Student Council will be able to channel the excitement surrounding Mario Kart into our next event, which will be… DODGEBALL! If you are itching to dominate the competition at the next event, just remember, “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”

Students Council’s accomplishments from the past month are not limited to merely Mario Kart mayhem. Mr. Probst was very helpful in cooperating with Student Council’s request for a recycling bin to be placed on Garland Field to collect all of the water bottles that are typically thrown away by people using the field. A bin has been placed on the field and will remain there as long as students are putting appropriate waste into it, so please be mindful when using it. Student Council has also gained control of the television on the ground floor that had up until this point only been used for photoshopped images of Mr. Hallas. While the digital signage will DEFINITELY see its fair share of teacher photoshops, we are also hoping to use it for more productive purposes such as posting world news updates, the lunch menu for the week, and other club announcements relevant to the whole school.

I would also like to congratulate Zoe Soteres, Makoto Tomokiyo, and Tatiana Barelli on being elected grade-level representatives of the freshmen class. I am really excited to hear what they have to contribute to our discussions and can already tell they will play an important role in making sure the rest of Student Council’s year is productive.

As always, please do not hesitate to talk to any of the Student Council members if you have a concern or suggestion regarding the school. You are always welcome to come talk with the executive board during its “office hours” every Monday in the cafeteria or to the entire Student Council during its Tuesday meetings in Ms. Farrell’s room.
