After a long season, we have exciting news! With a record of 1 win, 5 losses, and 3 ties, our amazing field hockey Bears made it to the WPIAL playoffs! Each tie is worth one point and each win is worth three points. This means our team racked up six points this season.
That is a huge victory when considering past patterns of behavior at WT. In the past, field hockey has not been a priority for WT. From canceled practices to being kicked out of the playoffs, our field hockey team has been rejected by WT repeatedly. (For more information please read this article). If you are surprised, you’re not alone. I had no idea that the field hockey team had such a past, but I am relieved to see that the team is starting to overcome these difficulties.
The team worked very hard this season to improve and ended the season with a nail-biting win.
Willa Elsas, a freshman on the team, said “I really did not expect to get to the playoffs, but when Clara scored the last goal in the last forty seconds of the game, it was really awesome. And we WON!” Her enthusiasm and excitement when answering this question was truly a sight to behold.
“At the end of the day, we had a rocky season but we made it through,” said Sarah Levin Decanini, a sophomore on the team. She sums it up perfectly, “I think we have a lot of great energy on the team and a great community. We also have a lot of skill, and when we put everything together we play very well, and have gotten so much better throughout the season. I’m really proud of everyone and how hard we’ve worked to get into [the] playoffs and improve as a team.”
Unfortunately, the team lost their playoff game to Shadyside Academy, but nonetheless, we are proud of the Bears for their successful season led by captains Adrionna Coleman ’25, Sadie Mollen ’26, and Lucy Mizikowski ’26.
