As December approaches, many people are getting in the holiday spirit! No matter what holiday you celebrate, this time of year is very festive. But as students there aren’t always many festivity related times at school. And with our homework, tests and projects it doesn’t always feel like the care free holiday spirit for students. Wouldn’t it be fun to be able to celebrate in school with your peers? Introducing Holiday Club! Founded by Effie Grelli and Ashi Kittur, this brand new club is all about celebrating everything we love about holidays. Their main goal is to host activities having to do with as many different holidays as possible, including all different cultures and religions. “And to spread holiday cheer!” They added.
Ashi and Effie founded this club together recently, their first meeting being Halloween themed. They celebrated by inviting peers to watch a classic: Hocus Pocus. But that was just the start of their holiday celebrations. “We have a bunch of other ideas for different holidays.” Ashi mentioned.
Some of the events coming up include ornament making and cookie decorating. Members will be able to create either felt or paper ornaments with many different designs on them. “We’re doing one for making ornaments for different religions, for different holidays.” Effie said. This event will take place after thanksgiving break on December 4th in the Willis Room during community time. It’s a fun way to welcome everyone back after the break. This club is inclusive of everyone and they take suggestions to ensure that they include everyone’s religion and culture. Holiday Club is also partnering with Sewing and Embroidery, and the Director of Equity and Inclusion, Ms. Martin for this event. Their club advisor, Dr. Durnan, helps them with important tasks. They will be hosting the cookie decorating event in December.
This club is all about spending time together and celebrating the happiest time of the year-holidays! “Our club is just a fun club because holidays are supposed to be fun.” Ashi said. They have a goal to include everyone and for the club to be a place for people to relax. There aren’t any requirements in it, anyone can go. While other clubs may have more serious focuses this one isn’t as strict. “Our club is just a fun club because holidays are supposed to be fun.” Ashi commented.
“We kept planning things that we could make or activities that we could do with just ourselves, and we thought we should make this a club!” Ashi explained. They’re only just getting started with their merry mission of holiday spirit. This club is sure to bring holiday joy to WT, from ornaments, to cookie decorating – these events are sure to bring the school together in celebration of all different holidays. And with more activities yet to be announced this club is a great place to spend time with your friends when you have free time. Their final remarks: “Everyone should come!”
